Corebridge SimpliNow Legacy Review (2026): Level vs. Graded Final Expense
An independent agent's review of Corebridge (formerly AIG) SimpliNow Legacy final expense: ages 50–80, Legacy Max level vs. graded coverage, decisions in minutes, and which health conditions qualify for each.
SimpliNow Legacy is Corebridge Financial’s simplified-issue final expense whole life policy. There’s no medical exam, the application is fully electronic with a decision in minutes, and there are two possible outcomes: SimpliNow Legacy Max, which pays in full from day one, or SimpliNow Legacy, a graded version. It’s best for adults 50 to 80 with managed chronic conditions. Corebridge’s own examples show stable diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, early-stage cancer, and even stents or bypass surgery qualifying for the level plan.
If you’re searching for “AIG final expense,” this is the product. AIG’s life insurance business is now Corebridge Financial, and SimpliNow Legacy is issued by American General Life Insurance Company. We’re an independent agency, not Corebridge. For the company background, see our AIG / Corebridge carrier review.

Corebridge’s American General Life doesn’t issue policies in New York. The age-based limits above come from Corebridge’s product training materials, and the policy forms have since been revised, so we confirm current limits whenever we quote.
How the decision works
The application asks two kinds of questions:
- Knockout questions. A “yes” to any of them declines both versions.
- Underwriting questions. These decide between level and graded. Answer “no” to all of them and you may qualify for Legacy Max. Otherwise, you’re offered the graded version or declined.
Corebridge advertises an instant decision every time, with “no additional underwriting ever.” There’s no exam and no waiting on medical records. You answer the questions, and the electronic application decides.
Coverage is also capped across products: if you hold this policy plus Corebridge’s guaranteed-issue whole life, the combined total can’t exceed $35,000 if you qualify for level coverage, or $25,000 if you qualify for graded.
SimpliNow Legacy Max (level): who lands here
Corebridge publishes example scenarios as a guideline, noting that every answer on the application counts. These examples point to day-one level coverage:
- Diabetes with a stable A1c of 8.6% or lower (type 2 diabetes)
- Rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis
- Stage 1 cancer diagnosed or treated within the past 48 months: melanoma, breast, colon, thyroid, kidney/ureter, prostate, testicular, cervical or endometrial (uterine) (cancer history)
- Some stable coronary conditions treated with stents or bypass surgery (heart attack history)
Those last two are unusually generous. Many final expense plans put recent cancer or heart procedures on a graded plan, or decline them, for at least two years.
SimpliNow Legacy (graded): who lands here
The graded version pays 110% of premiums if death is from natural causes in the first two years, and the full face amount for accidental death. From year three it pays in full. Corebridge’s examples:
- Diabetes with below-average A1c control, without major complications
- Hepatitis B
- Parkinson’s disease (Parkinson’s)
- Stage II cancers treated within the past 48 months
- Some cardiac conditions, such as cardiomyopathy
- Tobacco users ages 71 to 80, who can only get the graded version (smokers)
What the materials don’t say
Corebridge’s training materials don’t print the knockout questions, and they don’t give a rule for COPD or oxygen use. Those come from the application itself, and we go through them with you before you apply. (COPD)
If a knockout question rules you out, Corebridge’s separate Guaranteed Issue Whole Life asks no health questions for ages 50 to 80, with $5,000 to $25,000 of coverage. It has a two-year graded period that pays 110% of premiums.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Level coverage can be possible after stents or bypass, and for some stage 1 cancers within four years
- A decision within minutes, with no exam and no further underwriting
- The graded version still covers accidental death in full from day one
- Premiums stop at a maximum payment age instead of running for life
- A guaranteed-issue backstop from the same carrier
What to weigh
- Issue ages stop at 80
- The level maximum is only $25,000 for ages 50–60, below several competitors
- Tobacco users 71–80 can only get the graded version
- No published guidance on COPD or oxygen
- Not available in New York, and specifics may have changed since launch, so confirm current limits
How it compares
- Mutual of Omaha Living Promise: level coverage up to $50,000, starting at age 45.
- Transamerica FE Express: also an instant decision, with up to $100,000 through age 75.
- Royal Neighbors Ensured Legacy: a Preferred tier and a guaranteed-issue tier in one product family, with level coverage to age 85.

What is the waiting period on SimpliNow Legacy?
