Why it matters

What life insurance does for military families

Service members often have group coverage through their branch while on active duty. It is valuable — but it is generally tied to your service, and the amount may not be enough to replace your income, clear a mortgage, and keep your family steady for the long run. When you separate, that coverage can change or end.

Private life insurance is something you own. It can be sized to your family’s real obligations, follow you when you transition to civilian life, and give your spouse and kids a clearer picture of what they can count on. We help military families compare options and place coverage that fits — plainly, and without pressure.

The case for owning your coverage

Why military families add private coverage

Coverage that follows you

A private policy is not tied to your service status, so it can stay in force through PCS moves and after you separate.

Right-sized protection

Group coverage amounts may fall short of replacing your income and clearing a mortgage. Private coverage can be sized to the real number.

Plan for transition

Locking in coverage while you are young and healthy can make the move to civilian life smoother for your family.

Peace of mind at home

Deployments and demanding schedules are easier when your family knows exactly what is in place for them.

Questions we hear

Military families life insurance FAQ

Can I get private life insurance if I have SGLI?

In many cases, yes — private coverage is separate from group coverage like SGLI and can be added on top of it. Families often do this to reach a higher total amount or to have a policy they keep after separating. Availability and terms are set by the carrier, so we will help you compare.

Is United Eagles Financial affiliated with the military or the government?

No. We are an independent life insurance agency. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Department of Defense, any branch of the armed forces, or any government program. We help service members and their families compare and place private coverage.

Does being active duty affect my coverage options?

Some policies have specific terms or limits related to active-duty service, and these vary by carrier. That is exactly why working with an independent agency helps — we can look across options to find coverage that fits your situation. Final approval and terms are set by the carrier’s underwriting.

What happens to my coverage when I separate?

A private policy you own generally stays in force as long as you keep paying the premium, whether you are in uniform or a civilian. That is one of the main reasons military families add private coverage in addition to any service benefits.
